My involvement with Jeeps only started in 2017 when I met up with Nick Cowles at Souchez in France, where they celebrate the anniversary of their liberation in September 1944 . I was thinking of trying to restore a vehicle at the time & Nick explained that Jeeps are relatively small, so fit in a private garage quite well. The atmosphere amongst the military vehicle owners was obvious & infectious. I returned home & started to search for a Jeep to restore. I bought one in a “bit of a state” & restored it over the next 2 years. A complete amateur, I am involved mainly for the mechanical challenge & it keeps me out of trouble, pottering in the garage. I also like the remembrance aspect of owning a 1944 vehicle. I have taken it to Normandy & to Hallicourt. I have also used it at Headcorn for the BoB airshow. I live in Thatcham & it has been suggested that there may be enough support for an “Area Group” just to the west of Reading with the idea of a monthly meet, (during BST). Initially just for a “chin wag” about green vehicles, with the idea of doing some road runs around the local area on pleasant evenings through the summer.
