By far the largest geographic area of Imps, covering everywhere west of Reading to Lands End and up to Birmingham; the Western Area has a central hub in Somerset, just south of Bristol in the seaside town of Clevedon.

The Area is very fortunate to have its own meeting room dedicated for its sole use, where approximately 10-20 members meet monthly. The local members are affectionately know as the ‘Wimps’ but they do well contradict their whimsical title, travelling across the country to shows and military events.

Despite their apparent geographic isolation, the Wimps are very proud that they organise one of the Club’s national, sponsored events; the Dig for Victory Show. Held the first weekend of July the event has grown from very humble beginnings as an area rally, to something that now encompasses many different clubs, schools, organisations and community groups.

Away from the Dig for Victory Show the Wimps organise a series of smaller events, social evenings and outings throughout the year. In the past the Wimps have visited the Islands of Flat Holm and Steep Holm to inspect the historic fortifications, organised trips to the Imperial War Museum, Bovington Tank Museum and Haynes Motor Museum is but to name a few.

Putting aside the members own efforts to restore and maintain military vehicles, the Wimps often pool their efforts: Last year the Wimps restored an Anderson Shelter which now makes regular appearance at events across the South West of England.

Like all Imps areas, the Wimps are a friendly bunch and always welcome new members to the hobby. Owning a military vehicle is not a prerequisite just good company and a shared interest in all things military.
