The 2007 show succesfully marked
the 25th anniversary of the IMPS inaugural show at The
Kent and East Sussex Railway at Tenterden when the then club chairman
Dale Johnson commented “as long as everyone enjoys it and we
don’t lose too much money it will be a success”.
Over a 25 year period, it has become world famous as the definitive Military
Vehicle event and attracts visitors and enthusiasts from all over the
world. Set in the quiet Kent countryside at the Hop Farm at Beltring,
enthusiasts can now enjoy 5 days of fun with all things military.
And now the organisers are hard at work planning the 2008 edition.....
Over 3,500 vehicles took part in 2007 and this years show looks set to
attract a similar entry. From its humble beginnings, the event has changed
radically. In recent years the Arena Events have taken on themes such
as "Good Morning VietNam" and "War in the Desert"
and have attracted a vast increase in spectators and participants. Major
action events involving the leading Re-enactor groups and supported by
heavy armour.
The rapid growth of the show during the early
1990’s meant that, immediately after the vast 1999 show, IMPS
had to look carefully about how to run such a giant event. A commercial
agreement between the club and the Hop Farm means that the show is now
run by the site owners under the leadership of Rex Cadman, with the
IMPS committed to the show’s successful running, without
the inherent financial risks to the club
As a club, we are committed to providing help in the day to day running
of the show, such as marshalling, booking in and more volunteers are always
welcome!
IMPS has a stand at the show, so do come along to meet
us and if you aren’t already a member we will be delighted to recruit
you!
Firmly established as the focal point for
the world's military vehicle collectors, modellers and militaria enthusiasts,
most club members attend the event for this incredible 5 day celebration
of our hobby.
We are joined over the 5 days by over 100,000 members of the public -
some of whom end up joining the club.
With gates opening on the Wednesday, there are around 1000 military trade
stalls, hundreds of living history displays and of course already several
thousand vehicles from all over the UK and Europe. Throughout the week
more and more vehicles arrive until the site seems to be bursting at the
seams with military vehicles. The show really gears up on Friday and the
weekend with exciting arena events all day, including battle re-enactments
and heavy armour.
There is a raffle to enable one lucky winner
to become an instant military vehicle enthusiast for just £1–
first prize is a Jeep!
Evening entertainment including big band
Glenn Miller style concerts and dances with the String of Pearls Orchestra,
ensure that the atmosphere of nostalgia and military might carries on
until late at night.
Whatever your interest in military vehicles,
militaria, living history, 1940’s dancing or just a good day out
- War and Peace is not to be missed!
