My first involvement with Military Vehicles was when I received a pedal Jeep for my birthday when I was 3 years old! From that moment I always wanted to own a real one. My opportunity came when I purchased one in 1970 for about £250. It was replaced a couple of years later by a Ford script Jeep, which, being unaware of the rarity of scripted Jeeps I sold in order to buy a much better condition Jeep from the Warnham War Museum in 1976, which I still own. It has since been joined by a Chevrolet C8A HUP, an ex-Australian Army Jeep, and most recently a Canadian 1942 Ford Breakdown lorry, from Kenya.
I joined IMPS in 1982, was persuaded to become (or rather conned into becoming) Treasurer in 1984, then Chairman in 1989, followed by President in 1992 (whereupon I immediately moved to Holland, to become a rather absentee President). After 5 years I reverted to being just an ordinary member. My second stint commenced in April 2008, and currently don’t plan to flee the country.

I was invited to my first show in 2000, the War and Peace Show, Graham and myself thought they were all mad at the time dressing up in combats and all things green but i have got to admit that since then we first became members of the Imps that was the start then came the green clothes and of course the vehicles and now we are both hooked. I can not believe how this hobby spreads it is like a bug once you have got it the whole family get it and yes you have guessed my daughters and my grandchildren love it and are all members. I am myself disabled and spend a lot of time at home and thought I could put it to good use by helping out with the vast amount of paperwork, that is how I have now taken over the memberships and I am really enjoying meeting the members and chatting, that is what I like about the club it is so versatile that anybody can join.

I was born in Doncaster in 1964 and began my working life running the family Toy retail and wholesale company. During the 1980’s my interest in Jeeps (both military and civilian) grew and I formed the Jeep Club UK. By the mid 1990’s I founded and ran the UK’s only Jeep Magazine ‘Jeep World’ of which I sold back in 2004, to a larger publishing company, who have since scrapped it? During this time I also ran a company (and still to this day) called Jeep Books Ltd, in which I retail, wholesale and mail order Jeep books and manuals and Military books and manuals too. Earlier this year 2007, I became your editor and I now enjoy my new job in producing your Magazine – Imprint. Of which I intend to build the magazine into a full colour, more pages, more adverts and in general a far better publication for all the Members of IMPS. And I look forward to many more Imprint issue to come – Mark Askew – Editor.

I have lived in Kent since I was 13 and am now a self employed electrician. I have a keen interest in all types of vehicles - recently my interest has turned to military vehicles. I currently own a 1955 Hotchkiss Jeep and a 1957 Austin Champ which I use regularly to attend shows. I am enthusiastic about my current position and am working hard to develop a wider interest in military vehicles by organising rallies locally. I hope to see you at an area meeting soon.

I first got interested in al things WW2 from watching the great war films of the 50's and 60's. I competed nationally in Motorsport throughout the 70's, until I just couldn't afford it any more. A visit to the MVT Southsea show got me interested in buying a jeep which I did in 1987. I had restored over half of it before I realised there were dealers where parts were available. Then I joined the IMPs in 1989. I have a great deal of interest in old vehicles and mechanics in general, despite working in communications.
I have helped out on arena events since 1990 and finally became area secretary in 2001.

My first involement with military vehicles started in1990 (excluding Airfix and Tamiya). Myself and Allan Ede would make up a crew joining Tony Lawence and Jim Baxter in their Jeeps and head for the shows at RAF Duxford and Thruxton. This was pre IMPS. Well I was bitten by the bug. It took another few years before I finally joined the IMPS. Unfortunately due to personal reasons (your not spending all that money on an old jeep) it took a divorce before I purchased my first Military vehicle, a 1944 Willys MB. Did I feel good.
Well since that day Carole (now she like's jeeps) and I havn't stopped making use of the jeep, shows, events or just a drive out on a sunny day.
I have been a keen IMPS member since day one of my membership, attending many events, helping to set up and run the War and Peace Show (and keep the Peace). I have been the Weald Area Secretary since 2004 and have seen the area grow in numbers with excellent support from my fellow IMPS members. I look forward to serving and enjoying IMPS and the hobby for many years to come.
