IMPS Normandy Tour will take place from 1st –
9th June.
We will be staying en masse at Benouville, close
to the port of Ouistreham and within walking distance of Pegasus Bridge.
As well as attending remembrancee events, members will be able to join
some battlefield tours led by IMPS board members.
With over 4,000 military vehicles and 10,000 military enthusiasts, including
re-enactors, descending on Normandy for the 65th anniversary, the Conseil
General is keen to make sure that the events are well managed and not
encroached upon by well meaning enthusiasts.
Because of the various heads of states taking part in ceremonies, there
will be some vehicle movement and access restrictions on the 6th June.
This hapened in 2004 and certainly didnt cause us any problems.
Normandie Memoire are responsible for running the
commemorations throughout the 80 day anniversary period in Normandy.
Normandie Memoire have produced a charter which they ask all groups
to adhere to.
IMPS has signed up to the Normandie Memoire
Charter through Liberation Task Force, to ensure the smooth running
of the tour.
Liberation Task Force helped IMPS in 2004 with a wide range of facilities
including customs documentation and permits for movements. LTF are assisting
us both with the planning and during our visit.
Other IMPS members who are travelling to Normandy apart from the main
tour group are asked to sign up to the Normandie Memoire Charter through
Liberation Task Force.
