| 0/0/0 - Sunday 19/9/2010 | Hothfield Village Fete OPEN FROM 12.00 noon to 6.00pm
The village of Hothfield is having a Fete for the first time since 2006 in the former grounds of Hothfield Manor, behind the Village Hall. Hothfield Manor was a large army base for the Second World War and vehicles were parked all over what is now the village; tanks were parked along what is now known as Coach Drive (very close to the village hall). We also know that soldiers were billeted in the nearby Rippers Cross Farmhouse and for fun used to fire their guns over the house where the current owner occasionally finds spent casings and bullets. Hothfield Common also housed a large collection of nissen huts used by the Army during WWII.
The Fete will be held on 19th September (from 12:00 to 18:00) at the Village Hall where there is a tarmac car park; the hall also backs onto farmland owned by Jon Coles and he has kindly agreed that this field can also be used to park military vehicles (and any other old vehicles that we might be able to persuade to come along). This field is rarely wet so even if the weather is bad in September we still expect that vehicles can be safely parked on it. If your members would like an area for any artefacts or displays of your own then they would be most welcome. If you require any further information then please do not hesitate to contact me:
